The body of Gugsa Abraham "Abe" Dabela was found in an overturned car on the morning April 5, 2014, in Redding, less than a mile from his house, according to a statement from the family. He had been shot in the back of the head.

According to the family, the Redding Police Department ruled the death a result of a self-inflicted gunshot. The family says the police department neglected to put forth a genuine effort to find Dabela's killer and instead relied upon a "premature" conclusion rather than investigate the case.

“Their actions have heretofore hindered attempts to bring a murderer to justice, but our family will not rest until the perpetrator is behind bars," said Dr. Abraham Dabela, his father.

Dabela's car was found on Umpawaug Road near Route 107.

The state NAACP and the Norwalk branch of the NAACP have launched an investigation into Dabela's death. His death was ruled a suicide by the Office of the Medical Examiner in October 2014. However, Dabela’s family and NAACP officials believe that there are still many questions surrounding his death. Read about that NAACP investigation here on the Daily Voice.

Anyone who may have a tip relating to Dabela's death can send an anonymous e-mail to info@justice4abe.com or call the Connecticut NAACP at 860-523-9962. The family also operates a Facebook page dedicated to the case.

The Justice or Else! rally will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March on Washington, D.C.
