NORWALK, Conn. - Three days after Hurricane Sandy knocked power out to many in Norwalk, residents still in the dark are getting frustrated - and they're speaking out on The Norwalk Daily Voice's Facebook page.
Readers reacted to Connecticut Light & Power's announcement Thursday that almost everyone will have their power restored by Monday or Tuesday.
"That is awful!!!," reader Lisa Engelhardt Helwig wrote.
"I guess I'll deduct the $50 a day I'm spending on gas for my generator from my bill - you need to do better," reader Joe Muro told CL&P. "What about the poor people in shelters. C'mon, you knew this was coming and you knew how bad you responded on previous storms."
Other readers also questioned the power company's much-touted preparations.
"If this is prepared I would hate to see what unprepared looks like," Gill Ruehl wrote. "I feel bad for the towns around Norwalk."

East Norwalk, Third Taxing District, hardly ever loses power for more than a few minutes and has already gotten everybody back on line except for a few houses they cannot get near because a bridge is gone. CL&P needs to take lessons from the third district on distribution system design, maintenance, and repair. They might also study how the district maintains such service and sells electric service for so much less.
That 110 ft boat became a very high priority when it broke loose that close to the drawbridge. Without the first responders from Police and Fire, we could have lost safe use of that bridge for a long time. There is a lot more to that story, I'm sure. The law dept served the owner with several notices to move out and he ingored them. The boat should never have been there.
Anyone pointing fingers have to realize if some of these trees that took out power were removed by the city and the owners most of the damage would be single feeds to homes or business.
It makes sense to thin the tree line when those 80 to 100 foot trees are such nice shade trees.
The response was great 12 inch gas main in Milford burning out of control becuase a clmp power line ignited the fire feeding those who want power, dammed if you give dammed if you don't give power.
Shutting down the entire grid would of saved 100s of transformers now blown and have to be replaced about a 4 hour plus job on each one.
You have those with generators hooked up wrong feeding juice back into a dead system making it dangerous to work until a seperate crew makes sure power is shut off.
Lets think about a $660,000 fire boat sitting at the dock doing nothing for Dick.Moccia should of bought some generators portable pumps etc.East Norwalk had a report of a fire within the flood zone and no available pump from the fire dept to put out a fire that is planning? What the hell were they doing at the inn planing on this and every disaster.
Norwalk is all politics big show and no bite Start looking at what Norwlalk could of done better start with the Mayor and those who run the fire department they are slow in understnding what Norwalk needs not what sounds good for great press.
3 million dollars in new equipment and fire station and not one dime for a new $200 dollar pump or an ect generator but yes lets see how the chronic complaints point the finger at others and not at the city officials.
Power is in abundance in Norwalk where we take care of the tree line insure proper communication within our own streets makes it easy to ride out a storm without city help.
The mayor is doing well to hide what should of been done bt ye city what should of been purchased making good press is what counts and not take any responsibility for year after year screw ups by city hall.
Chasing a 110 boat around Norwalk harbour where even the fire dept admits was dangerous putting personal ast risk for what?A administration taking care of its own and not the taxpayers.
Complain everyone has that right but first take the time to realize what the problem is not what you think it is.
You have a tree thats going to cost a grand to take down then take it down or tell the guy next door its a dangerous tree.
Must be nice to own a million dollar home and blame everyone for the outage and not actually know why the outage was caused in the first place.
Best part of this is this according to experts is this is just te start for storms like this so maybe it will convince those who live here in Norwalk to move to a better community and let the rest of us who are trying to get by alone and manage our own city without the republicans.
Only thing worse than lack of power was/is the lack of information! Worst service in 27 years from TTD, and apparently CL&P, also.
If I thought for one second that we'd be out of power for 4 days I may have made other choices and arrangements. In East Norwalk we seldom lose power at all, and when we do, it's for moments or a few hours.
I suggest post-event forums be held so we can provide feedback on what worked well, and what needs some improvement... yes, negative naysayers, I DO have a list, because it is better to acknowledge problems and address them then to hide your head in the sand and pretend all is well....
I agree with you Diane those who hide from it all should get involved and know whats going on.We probably have the best staff and employees working for us but when leadership decides to do something in Norwalk the outfall of bad choices trickle down to those who honestly have great ideas and solutions but are not in the loop.Takes a crowd to be heard takes a crowd to get what they deserve but when your up against a Mayor who simply uses arogance to solve problems and run a city it discourages those who have problem solving ideas and investments in the city to be heard.
Doesn't take a much to understand what Norwalk needs, sell a few toys like the segway the parking department uses and buy some equipment for the fire dept.I'm sure if you gave a check to some of our men on the fire dept they wouldn't go out and buy some of the crap Moccia has bought that honestly doesn't do anything for the city. What the fire dept needed this last storm is chump change purchases.Bottle and can money would of given the emergency services a leg up on this last storm its not rocket science.
