Ex-Fairfield County Priest Expected To Plead Guilty In Meth Case

DANBURY, Conn. -- A Roman Catholic priest from Fairfield County charged earlier this year with selling methamphetamines plans to plead guilty, the New York Times has reported via The Associated Press.

Monsignor Kevin Wallin, who was once the pastor at St. Peter's in Danbury, is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Hartford next week and is expected to plead guilty to conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute it, according to the filing, obtained by The AP. The charge carries a possible sentence of 10 years to life in prison.

Wallin, 61, allegedly took in more than $300,000 from sales of the drug from his Waterbury apartment in late 2012. He was arrested by federal agents Jan. 3.

Wallin was the pastor of the Cathedral of St. Augustine in Bridgeport for nine years until he resigned in June 2011, citing health and personal problems. The Diocese of Bridgeport suspended him from public ministry in May 2012.

A grand jury indicted Wallin and four others Jan. 15.
