NORWALK, Conn. – State police will step up enforcement on highways in the Fairfield County area following two fatal crashes in Norwalk this week, according to Sen. Bob Duff.

“None of us know why these accidents happened, but two fatal accidents in as many days is too much. Enough is enough,” Duff said. “We have to send a message to drivers about tailgating, about speeding, not talking on the phone, not texting, and driving safely. That’s what’s really important.”

An 85-year-old Darien woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in an accident on Route 7 southbound in Norwalk after a car she was traveling in went over a guardrail and down an embankment. The following day, a 32-year-old New Jersey bus driver was killed after the bus he was driving struck a tractor-trailer on I-95 southbound.

Duff is the state senator representing Darien and Norwalk and the Senate Majority Leader. He said he called state police and Gov. Dannel Malloy’s office Wednesday night after the second accident, asking them for additional resources along the Stamford-Bridgeport corridor of I-95 and along Route 7.

Duff said he heard back from state police Thursday afternoon, who said that they will be increasing patrols in the area. He said he expects that to start relatively soon.
