At least five telephone poles were pulled down shortly after noon Monday on Seaview Avenue, creating a power outage in East Norwalk. A witness said he thought a tractor trailer pulled down the poles. Other residents thought the truck caught a wire that was hanging down.
The witness, whose first name was Karl, said he had been following a tractor trailer up First Street toward Seaview Avenue. Karl turned into his driveway and the truck continued up the road. Then Karl heard an explosion and saw smoke crossing Mill Pond.
The witness walked out and saw the downed telephone poles. He said this happened between 12:30 and 1 p.m.
South Norwalk Electric Works employees have been on scene since the incident. A supervisor said it would take 24 hours to restore power.
