NORWALK, Conn. Plan accordingly if you're heading for the South Norwalk train station in the coming weeks: Monroe Street between Chestnut Street and State Street is expected to be closed, state Department of Transportation officials announced.
The roadway under the Metro-North Railroad bridge will be lowered and paved, weather permitting. The closure will happen on or about Monday, Aug. 22, through Friday, Sept. 9. The railroad station driveway will also be paved.
During this time, commuters must follow the posted detour signs. Local traffic will access the railroad station from Henry Street or State Street. Parking garage egress will be maintained with exiting traffic going toward Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Access to business and residential parking off Monroe Street will be maintained with access from State Street. Pedestrian traffic on Monroe Street and Railroad Station Driveway will be maintained at all times.
This work is part of an ongoing project to replace bridges and catenary on Metro-North's New Haven Line between South Norwalk and Stamford.
