Norwalk's Person-To-Person Receives $25,000 Grant From Near & Far Aid

DARIEN, Conn. – The Southport-based Near & Far Aid Association recently awarded Darien’s Person-To-Person a $25,000 grant for its emergency assistance program.

The program offers food, clothing, financial help, counseling and other referrals to people in need.

“With locations in Norwalk and Darien, we have seen a significant increase in the need for all of our services – particularly food,” said Ceci Maher, executive director of Person-To-Person, in a press release.

“With the combination of cuts in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and increases in the number of people experiencing food insecurity – which is more than 16 percent of all children in Fairfield County – the number of people that visit the P2P Food Pantry in Norwalk and Darien has increased by 42 percent.”

“We are grateful for the continuing commitment and support of Near & Far Aid, which enables us to extend our services to meet the needs of people who are living in poverty in Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Weston, Westport and Wilton.”

Near & Far Aid has awarded more than $14 million in grants since 2000 in hopes of alleviating poverty in the region. The non-profit organization is operated entirely by volunteers.

“We take great pride in the work we do at Near & Far Aid and endeavor to draw greater attention to poverty in Fairfield County, which will result in better funding for programs that address this issue,” said Bitsy Higgins, Near & Far Aid president, in a press release.
