The train was heading to Norwalk on the Danbury Branch Line when it collided with the vehicle at the intersection of Simpaug Turnpike and Long Ridge Road, Conner said.
The car was driving across the tracks on Long Ridge Road when it was struck from the side and pushed several hundred feet down the tracks, Redding Police said.
The status, age, gender and names of the vehicle’s passengers remained unknown as of 4 p.m.
Two MTA employees were on the train, an engineer and conductor, both were uninjured.
The Redding Fire Department extracted the three injured passengers and a fourth passenger was able to leave the vehicle unassisted.
MTA Police will complete reconstruction of the accident, including an investigation to find out if the lights at the intersection had gone on at the time the train was passing, Conner said.
"This is considered a major accident with four people that are injured and all removed to the hospital. We're hoping to speak with them so we can find out the details in reference to what they were doing," Conner said.
Service on the Danbury Metro-North train line between Danbury and South Norwalk was temporarily suspended, MTA said, with bus service available.
