The credit-monitoring site WalletHub released a study last week, identifying the states most vulnerable to identity theft and fraud. Analysts compared data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia across eight key metrics, ranging from identity theft complaints per capita to average amount lost due to fraud.

California was named the worst state for identity theft and fraud, while Iowa was ranked the least vulnerable, according to WalletHub.

In addition to ranking as the 10th worst state overall, here's how Connecticut ranked among other metrics:

  • Identity theft complaints per capita: 7th
  • Average loss amount due to online identity theft: 5th
  • Fraud and other complaints per capita: 25th
  • State security-freeze laws for minors' credit reports: 23rd
  • Identity theft passport program: 1st
  • Compliance with REAL ID Act: 24th
