FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The life expectancy of Connecticut residents was rated among the highest in the United States, a new national Centers for Disease Control (CDC) study shows .
The average life expectancy in Connecticut for state residents after the age of 65 was 20.2 years, with the U.S. average set at 19.1 years. Connecticut is tied with Arizona and only California, Florida and Hawaii have longer life expectancies
To determine state-level life expectancy, the CDC said it used data from the National Vital Statistics Systems, U.S. Census Bureau and Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System in people aged 65 years, by sex and race, in the U.S.
Across the country, healthy life expectancy, which reflects both quality and quantity of life, was lowest in southern states, the CDC data said. For all persons at age 65 years, the CDC said the highest expectancy was found to be in Hawaii and the lowest was in Mississippi.
