Car Crashes Into Norwalk Variety Store

A car crashed into the front of County Mall Variety on Sunday morning, showering customers buying lottery tickets and their morning papers with glass and other debris. No injuries were reported at the store at 250 Westport Ave., Norwalk.

“I’ve had a fever and been feeling dizzy,” said the driver, who did not give her name. Police officers at the scene said there was no evidence of intoxication or that the woman was disoriented by drugs. Officers said the woman got confused and stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake pedal as she approached the store.

Moin Vahora Khan, a clerk at the store, said he saw the vehicle approaching as he was returning from the back of the store. “It came suddenly and I thought it was going to go through the store, but fortunately it didn’t.”

The front door of the store was extensively damaged, and the brickwork around the store’s window was also broken.

Police officers advised the store’s owner, Kevin Rana, to call his landlord to help secure the premises. Rana said the store would remain open as he figured out what to do. Customers continued to drop by, gingerly stepping over glass to enter.
