Alleged Norwalk Crash-Causer Charged in Assault

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man who police say crashed into several vehicles last week while driving a stolen van had more charges filed against him early Monday.

Steven Carey, 21, of 289 Silvermine Ave., still was in Norwalk Hospital Monday afternoon following the Thursday afternoon incidents on Wall Street and West Avenue, according to comments made in Norwalk Superior Court. New charges stem from an assault reported by the hospital at 4:26 a.m. and are assault on a peace officer/firefighter/emergency medical personnel, interfering with a police officer and breach of peace second degree. Bond was set at $500. Norwalk police Sgt. Lisa Cotto could provide no details Monday morning as the report on the incident had not yet been written.

Carey ran from police Thursday afternoon after causing an accident at Wall and Commerce streets, according to Sgt. Jim Boff. He was Tased, arrested and taken to the hospital, police said.

He was driving a stolen Ford e150 van and was in two other accidents on West Avenue just prior to the Wall Street incident, Boff said.
