3 Norwalk Police Officers Deliver a Baby

NORWALK, Conn. – The night shift brought something different to three Norwalk Police officers Tuesday morning – they delivered a baby, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. Officers Pat English, Michelle McSally and Brendan Collins headed for 1 Mott Ave. at 2:29 a.m. for a report of a woman in labor. At 2:35 a.m. the baby girl had been born, into McSally's hands.

Cotto said that when McSally and English arrived, Orlanda Gil, 36, was lying on a bed and having contractions. Officers advised paramedics to speed it up, as it was obvious to McSally that the baby would be born any minute. Officers supported the baby as it came out and made sure the umbilical cord was not wrapped around the infant. It was a girl. English made sure the baby was crying and moving her arms and legs. They got towels and blankets to wrap the baby and kept her level with the mother because the cord was still attached.

Cotto was not sure what the baby girl will be named, although the possibility of Veronica was mentioned.
