NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk has begun its 2013 real property revaluation process, city officials announced.
Norwalk last conducted a revaluation in 2007 for the grand list of Oct. 1, 2008. By law, Connecticut municipalities are required to conduct revaluations at least once every five years.
The real estate values established as of Oct. 1, 2013, will set the property tax rates for the fiscal years of 2014 through 2019.
The tax assessor’s office in Norwalk has contracted with Northboro, Mass.-based Vision Government Solutions Inc. to assist with appraising properties throughout the city, a process that began last week. The company has conducted similar revaluations in Stamford, Wilton, Weston and Bridgeport.
Representatives from Vision will begin inspecting home and building interiors in central Norwalk. Residents will know them by photo identification and an assessor’s introduction letter. Additionally, information on the cars the company’s employees drive has been filed with the Norwalk Police Department.
Interior inspections take about 10 minutes, and an adult over the age of 18 must be present before Vision employees will enter a home or building.
