The stray 8-week-old male kitten was found caught in an iron fence. Shelter organizers estimate he had been caught in the fence for at least three days.
“His leg became badly broken, probably from his struggle to get free,” Animals in Distress organizers said in a statement. “The leg was badly infected and becoming septic. It had to come off immediately.”
The kitten was taken to a local veterinarian, who performed emergency surgery. The kitten’s left rear leg was amputated to his hip, and he is now in recovery. Following the surgery, shelter volunteers named the kitten Tres.
“He is obviously a tough little fighter and it appears he will pull through,” shelter organizers said in the statement. “He'll be up and running around in no time. He's quite remarkable.”
Now that Tres received the medical care he needed, the nonprofit is raising funds to pay for his surgery, and his aftercare.

Tres will not be ready for adoption until he fully recovers. Until then, shelter organizers said Tres will spend time in foster care.
