NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk officials have decided not to cancel Halloween in the city Wednesday, though the cleanup from Hurricane Sandy is continuing.
Mayor Richard Moccia said Tuesday that he does not recommend children head out to trick or treat in the city, but he believes the decision whether to participate in the annual event should be up to individual families.
“My suggestion would be, if you do want to celebrate Halloween, do it indoors and at a party,” Moccia said.
Several neighborhoods around Norwalk still have downed trees and wires, and Moccia said children obviously should stay out of those areas.

STRANGE AS LAST YEAR HE PLAYED DICTATOR AND CANCELLED HALLOWEEN FROM THE SNOW STORM.
Wrong. Last year he "recommended" that kids didnt go out on Halloween night, and said that they should go out on the Saturday. Areas that were bad, common sense tells you not to go out. There were many areas that were fine, both last year and this year. People should learn how to LISTEN and not just jump on a bandwagon of mis truth.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Personally I don't need a Mayor deciding whats safe for me and my family so I support his decision. Of course if your area is messed up don't let your kids go there. Maybe he, unlike many others, learned from a mistake.
He's a fool! The surrounding towns have rescheduled Halloween for next week or provided other activities. He needs to grow a pair and make a decision! Last year people were unhappy because he called it so late in the day. He had the opportunity to make it right, and he blew it!
This is 100 percent the right move as the mayor has no authority to cancel anything..Strange that some know Republicans on this board think this is wrong when they preach that government should be out of our lives
Huge mistake ! Half the town is without power. there are lines down and all sorts of dangling debris. Other towns have rescheduled this public event for next wednesday. Not evry parent makes the best decisions for their kids and kids alone are going to venture wherever they can for candy. Who can even enjoy this with all they must have on their minds about lost property, family and friends experiencing tragedy etc. Hold it indoors? On generator power? There's an accident waiting to happen. This needs to be re-scheduled
