More than 50 young musicians ages 4-17 participated in the weekend-long event.

The festival’s highlight was the Concerto Competition, during which the contestants were invited to perform a concerto movement of their choice from a piece written prior to 1920. This year’s winner, Stratford teen Cameron Chase, played the famously difficult first movement of the Vieuxtemps’ Fifth Violin Concerto.

Chase will repeat his award-winning performance with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra at its Side-by-Side Family Concert with the Norwalk Youth Symphony at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6.

At the age of 15, Chase already has garnered an impressive resume. A violin student since he was 5, he now studies with Hyo Kang and I-Hao Lee at the Juilliard Pre-College Program and serves as concertmaster of the Norwalk Youth Symphony under the baton of Music Director Jonathan Yates.

In 2014, Chase won the American Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition and placed second in the Musical Club of Hartford High School Competition.

An actor as well as a musician, he has participated in seven Shakespeare productions with Penny Lane Players of Fairfield and currently is rehearsing the role of Mercutio in "Romeo and Juliet."

A homeschooler, he also attends Beacon Self-Directed Learning in New Haven.

The orchestra also wishes to congratulate Giada Lin, 9, and Alison Shively, 13, who were respective winners of the junior and senior competitions.

Lin performed the first movement of Seitz Concerto No. 3 in G minor, and Alison played the first movement of the Max Bruch Concerto in G minor.

Tickets for the March 6 concert can be purchased through www.norwalksymphony.org, by calling 203-956-6771 or by e-mailing info@norwalksymphony.org.
