The group works on cleaning up areas that are reported to the city for litter or graffiti. They cleaned up Liberty Square in Norwalk last week, picking up twigs and branches, hundreds of empty bottles, broken glass, food wrappers and other debris from the grassy areas, sidewalks and parking lot areas.
At recent Common Council hearings, family members and city representatives discussed the impact that SoNo STARS has, including the fact that it is the only trash removal program in the city. Parents and members of the group shared their enthusiasm for the work they do.
STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is a not–for-profit organization established in 1952 to serve individuals of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families. STAR creates opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy. They inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals.
STAR serves more than 600 individuals from birth through their senior years in Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Westport and Weston. They inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals.
