The organization is hosting its second annual social and competition from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 11 at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center in Old Greenwich.

The event, in which teams vie for the champ title and the coveted bedazzled golden hammer prize, raises funds for Women Build, an innovative program designed to recruit, educate and empower women to break stereotypes, build homes and advocate for affordable housing in Fairfield County.

All proceeds will be used to build a new home for a hard-working, female-headed household in need.

“This event is unique and so much fun!” said Andrea Stone committee chair of Women Build. “There is no better way to get involved to support the building of decent, affordable housing for hard working families.”

The event is co-sponsored by the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation and Garden Catering.

Teams of four are encouraged to register early for the event; no donation is required during the registration process. It is the organizers hope that each team will raise at least $500 by competition day.

Habitat provides participants with a website and coaching for success.

Spectators, including men, are welcome to attend and cheer on their favorite teams. Spectator tickets can be purchased online (prior to May 11) for $25 or $35 at the door.

There will also be prizes for the best team name and best costume, as well as ample food and drink for all contestants and spectators.
