NORWALK, Conn. – Low-income residents of Norwalk are slated to benefit from a pair of grants from the recent “12-12-12” Hurricane Sandy relief concert and the Robin Hood Foundation.

North Walke Housing Corp. will receive $250,000 and Person-to-Person will receive $150,000 from the foundation, according to officials. North Walke will use the money to help with home repairs as a result of the fall hurricane, and P2P will use the money to help with purchases of personal belongings, appliances and other items destroyed by the storm.

The grants will have a huge impact in helping low-income families devastated by the hurricane, executive director of Person-to-Person Ceci Maher said in a statement.

“Families already on tight budgets, relying on each paycheck to make ends meet and provide for their families experienced huge setbacks due to lost wages; many lacked the resources to repair damages and replace belongings,” said Maher.

North Walke, a subsidiary of the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency, assists with homeownership and financing, and the grant will also help with the rental payments of displaced residents.

“Robin Hood’s generous grant is a welcome addition to the recovery efforts following Hurricane Sandy and this is especially appreciated because the funds will be distributed to families with the least ability to finance their own recovery efforts,” Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia said in a statement. “I wish to commend the specific efforts of Person-to-Person and the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency for taking the initiative in the grant application process.”
