Retired Norwalk Teacher Kocher Dies at 82

NORWALK, Conn. – Catherine Kocher, 82, of Norwalk, died Monday, April 2, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

The wife of the late George J. Kocher, she was born in Utica, Mich., to the late Charles C. and Lourah Mae Embry Magee. Kocher lived locally most of her life. She was retired from the Norwalk school system, where she taught at the McGrath, Roosevelt, Marvin and Naramake schools.

Kocher was very active with St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Norwalk and also enjoyed going to the YMCA.

Survivors include her stepdaughters, Alice Procacinni and Barbara Zahlman, six step-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Magee, her sister, Patricia Robison, and her stepson, Douglas Kocher.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Norwalk with Pastor Robert Beinke officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk.
