The Purim holiday is a part of biblical history that dates back over 2,500 years ago and commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people of the ancient Persian Empire from Haman's plot to annihilate them, as recorded in the megillah, the Book of Esther. It is celebrated by reading of the megillah, which recounts the story of the Purim miracle, giving gifts of money to the poor, sending gifts of food to friends and participating in a Purim feast.

The YJP, CT serves as a hub for networking and social activities for Jewish professionals in their 20s and 30s serving the many young Jews living and working in and around Darien, Norwalk, Wilton, Weston, Westport and Fairfield County.
