NORWALK, Conn. - Showing off one of the model apartment units at the soon-to-be-open Maplewood at Strawberry Hill assisted living and memory care community in Norwalk, Diana Singer spoke fondly of why she has spent most of her career in senior living communities.
I love their stories and every resident has a different one to tell, said the Norwalk communitys new executive director. I love to learn about the life they have experienced.
Because she cares about each individual, Singer said it is her goal to make every resident's transition into Strawberry Hill a smooth one. Thats why Strawberry Hill will include a beauty salon and spa, a pub complete with happy-hour specials, a wellness center and beautiful outdoor gardens and landscaping when it welcomes them this September.
Were excited about getting the doors open and welcoming everyone, she said. "We're thrilled to have been so well received by the greater Norwalk community."
Singer said the seniors will also be able to share a bit of their stories with the rest of Strawberry Hill by way of their favorite family recipes. They will be encouraged to submit their dishes to the house chef, who will prepare and serve them to the whole community. Each resident who contributes a recipe will be featured on the menu that night.
"Food and cooking are often intertwined with memories, and sharing cherished memories is part of establishing connections with others and enriching the community experience," Singer said.
