When you walk through a home that Birgit Anich has staged, the house will tell you a story. "We stage homes to create a lifestyle experience," Birgit says, "Buyers connect with the home and often want to move in right away."
Growing up in Austria, Birgit Anich dreamed of being an interior designer. Her parents built a house when she was a teenager and she worked closely with the architect.
With no interior design programs in Austria, Birgit ended up studying business and economics before moving to the U.S. with her husband. The couple lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Stamford before finally settling in Norwalk with their two children. Birgit worked by day as a market researcher and in the evenings she attended Fairfield University's interior design program.
As the economy slowed, Birgit spotted an opportunity to combine her love of interior design with her market research skills. Birgit Anich Staging & Interiors helps homeowners sell their homes in a stalled market by combining target staging with lifestyle merchandising.
Traditional home staging, Birgit explains, neutralizes a house so that it appeals to a wide buyer pool. But this doesn't necessarily bring a buyer to the table. Target marketing involves systematic market research to uncover the demographics and psychographics of a home's location. Using this information, Birgit can stage a home to appeal to target buyers.
"The home staging industry is undergoing a big shift," Birgit says. "It's no longer about making a home look pretty. It's about appealing to the people most likely to purchase the property."
Birgit has racked up several impressive results. One client's home had been on the market for almost a year. After painting a few rooms in the colors Birgit suggested and adding specific accessories, the house sold in two weeks. "I could have saved them a lot of stress if they had staged the home before they put it on the market," Birgit says.
