NORWALK, Conn. Bridgeports Tangela Smith took home first prize in the first annual So You Think Youve Got Talent competition in Norwalk after belting out I Will Always Love You in front of 500 people.
The audience gave Smith a standing ovation before voting her number one of 11 other performers at Friday's competition. She was awarded a $5,000 check.
Other performers included pianist Clara Tu, jump roper Douglas Raigosa and the a capella group Acafellas.
The show included three dancers who hosts from the Triangle Community Center , a non-profit group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered youths, said were worthy of the television show So You Think You Can Dance.
"The show was a huge success and even bigger and better than I could have hoped for", said Chris Titus, president of CA Titus Productions, which produced the show. "The audiences level of energy and enthusiasm made it clear to me that we have to do more of these shows...and from all the comments weve been receiving, the sooner the better."
