Norwalk School Nurse Jeannine Brady Dies at 58

NORWALK, Conn. – Jeannine M. Brady, the school nurse of Cranbury Elementary School in Norwalk, died April 25 at her home after a two-year battle with cancer. She was 58.

Brady worked as a school nurse for Norwalk Public Schools the past 15 years, first at Brookside Elementary School and the last eight years at Cranbury.

During her long career in nursing, she most enjoyed her work with children and her experiences as a labor and delivery nurse in Milford, Conn. and Worcester, Mass. This year, Brady was the recipient of the "Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing."

Brady was born in 1954 in Worcester, Mass., to Alfred Gosselin and Beverley Graton Gosselin. A resident of Westport, she was married to John J. Brady for 38 years. Brady loved Westport, especially enjoying sunsets at Compo Beach.

An avid bargain hunter, she also enjoyed a good tag sale. Among her many interests and hobbies, she is best known for reading, design and creation of sock monkeys, stained glass portraits, glass paintings, knitting and crocheting. Brady spent many summers at the family home West Harwich, Mass. She was an active member of Allen's Harbor Yacht Club in Harwichport, Mass.

Brady is survived by her parents; her husband, John; a son, Christopher and his wife, Andrea Villanti; two daughters, Caitlin and her wife, Marianne, and Marissa; a sister, Denise Healey, of Worcester; two brothers, Paul, of Cambridge, Mass., and David, of Lexington, Ky.; and a granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk. There will be a memorial Mass at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Jerome Church in Norwalk, with a reception following at the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jeannine M. Brady Nursing Scholarship being established at Norwalk High School, or to St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT 06850.
