Norwalk Letter: Support Steve Obsitnik For Congress

NORWALK, Conn. — The Norwalk Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Letters may be e-mailed to letters@dailyvoice.com.

To the Editor,

Please take a few minutes to learn about a great friend of mine, Steve Obsitnik, candidate for U.S. Congress in the 4th District of Connecticut. Like I did, Steve started in the U.S. Navy. Steve did it with more flair, though. He was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy with the help of then-Congressman Stewart McKinney and gave nine years of service to his country. A brilliant man, Steve graduated from the academy with a degree in electrical engineering and went through the difficult Navy Nuclear Power Program. Steve served in submarines and ashore for five years as payback for the academy before leaving the Navy.

After his time in the service, Steve attended my alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, and earned a master's degree in business administration. While a lucrative career on Wall Street was certainly an option, I admire Steve because he did not opt to cash in. Instead, he put his engineering and management skills to better use, working in Silicon Valley and eventually back in Connecticut, creating innovative technology products, and thereby jobs, to serve the global marketplace.

After gaining experience with companies such as SRI and Sarnoff, Steve started his own company, Quintel, and was president and CEO until he began his campaign. Steve created jobs both in the States as well as overseas and met the payroll while expanding his business through his determination, skill and hard work. Steve believes small business and entrepreneurship fuel the American Dream. It's why his grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia with Steve's father. It's that spirit that made Steve successful and it is that spirit that inspires Steve to give back to his country and community.

Steve is the only candidate in this race who has actually created jobs. Steve believes we need to create jobs and fix our fiscal mess by reforming the tax code and reducing the deficit and debt. I agree and feel that we need to return this type of responsible and courageous leadership to Washington. We don't need the empty suits who line up to spout a party line that they have been programmed to repeat.

A native of Stamford, a resident of Westport, an intelligent and accomplished entrepreneur and jobs creator ... that is how I see Steve Obsitnik. He is not an ideologue who will blindly support a party line. He is intelligent and being Connecticut born and bred, will represent the people of the 4th District of our fine state in Washington. He will stand up for us, and not kowtow to extremists to curry favor. He will focus on what really matters to us and not get dragged off into issues that simply aren't a factor in our lives in 2012 in Fairfield County. He is more than a carefully crafted sound bite. Find out more about him at www.obsitnik.com and please support him in November.
