The event is held annually to honor the life of Cassie Geary of Darien, who suffered a fatal car accident, and to raise awareness about seat-belt safety.

Ten softball teams from throughout Fairfield County will compete for prizes. The rain date is Aug. 24

Food will be provided by Rudy and Cindy Jiminez, and the Pickles Food Truck will be available throughout the day as well as baked goods made by Cassie’s friends. T-shirts, beach bags and magnets will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to the Click It for Cassie Foundation.

Anne and Tom Geary along with Cassie’s siblings started the fund in 2008. They lost their 17-year-old daughter Cassie when she lost control of her vehicle in severe weather and suffered blunt trauma injuries in a crash. Police told the Gearys that Cassie would have survived if she had been wearing her seat belt during the accident. She was driving about 30 mph.

Click It for Cassie bumper stickers will be given away during the games with the intention that the stickers, when seen on the road, would cause other drivers to slow down and click their seat belts.

“If our campaign helps just one person walk away from an otherwise deadly accident, it makes us feel that Cassie is working with us and did not die in vain,” said Tom Geary in a press release. "This event is our only fundraiser of the year, and the money raised allows us to continue spreading the 'Click It for Cassie' message about seat belt safety to young people.”

In 2009, four of Cassie’s classmates and Click It for Cassie volunteers survived a car incident in which the SUV they were in rolled over. All had been wearing their seat belts.
