Norwalk Girls' Challenge Program Gets $20,000 Grant

NORWALK, Conn. — Family and Children's Agency of Norwalk has received a $20,000 grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation Fund for Women and Girls. The money will support the Girls' Challenge component of the agency's after school program.

The Girls' Challenge is a development program designed to encourage adolescent girls to develop and strengthen positive peer relations, internal resources and leadership skills. The program is in its ninth year and helps girls in sixth, seventh and eighth grades explore issues such as self-esteem, body image, peer pressure, self-care and stress management. The seventh and eighth grade girls hone their leadership skills through community service projects, a youth advisory council and exploration of personal interests and life goals.

"We are truly pleased that the Fairfield County Community Foundation for Women and Girls continues to support Girls' Challenge," said Rob Cashel, president and CEO of Family and Children's Agency. "They understand the critical importance and value that the program holds for not only the participants, but their families and communities in general."

The Fairfield County Comunity Foundation was formed in 1992. Its Fund for Women and Girls was established in 1998 and has awarded more than $2 million in grants since its inception.
