This year’s toy drive began on Friday, Nov. 24 and will run through Dec. 21.
The toys will be given to children who have been abused, neglected and/or are at-risk, many of whom live in foster care or group homes and are struggling with frightening and unclear futures. For some of these children, this is the only gift they will receive.
The locations where donations can be dropped off are:
- Station 1 at 90 New Canaan Ave.
- Station 2 at Headquarters at 121 Connecticut Ave.
- Station 4 at 180 Westport Ave.
- Station 5 at 23 Meadow St.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to provide support to the Human Services Council and help children in need during this holiday season,” said Fire Chief Gino Gatto. “We hope that using the local firehouses will make it quick and convenient for residents or businesses that want to drop-off toy donations this holiday season. Every year, we are so appreciative and overwhelmed by the generosity of Norwalkers.”
In addition to the toy drive, the Fire Department and Public Safety cadets will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast with Santa at the Fire Department on Dec. 9 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The event is free, but the department is requesting a donation of a toy or gift for the toy drive. Staff from Human Services Council will also be on-site for attendees who want to make a financial donation or donation of gift cards.
