Norwalk Financier To Show Photos At Exhibition

NORWALK, Conn. - Norwalk’s Lewis Fink initially fell in love with photography because it allowed him to “get out of his own head,” which for the past 25 years had been solely focused on the financial investments of his clients at David Lerner Associates in Westport.

“I had a client who sells cameras, and I decided to buy one from him,” said the company's senior associate.

That was five years ago, and the rest is now history. This August, Fink’s photographs will be shown as part of the “Thank You, CT,” exhibition at the Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery in Stamford. A few of the works, which were chosen from more than 100 submissions, were shot at a Coney Island boardwalk parade, on the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and on the train to Citi Field in Queens.

“The thing I like about what I do with photography is that it is largely instinctive,” he said. “I don’t plan it; a scene just sort of takes me.”

One such scene was captured on a night when Fink initially headed to a Brooklyn neighborhood for dinner. The restaurant he had intended to eat at was closed, but he ended up snapping a photo of two Hasidic Jewish men who were dressed in their traditional attire.

“Photos can take you to a different place and New York can be like that sometimes,” Fink said. “It can almost seem like you’re in a different country.”

“Thank You, CT” will open Friday, Aug. 3, at the Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery in Stamford and will be on display until September.
