The presentation was made at the store, 1560 Post Road.

NGT provides free tennis lessons, play, team membership and supplemental learning programs to hundreds of disadvantaged children living in Norwalk.

Sharon Macey, whose family organizes and supports this effort to provide tennis shoes to the neediest children playing in the NGT tennis program, said: “The Athletic Shoe Factory has supported hundreds of Norwalk Grassroots Tennis children with proper tennis footwear for over 10 years. Chris Buchner, owner of Athletic Shoe Factory, along with his entire staff, help us source tennis shoes and negotiate lower prices. We absolutely couldn’t accomplish this without their enthusiastic involvement.  We are delighted to honor their commitment to our greater community.”

Saturday’s event included children involved in the NGT program, tennis director David Kimani, NGT Executive Director Chris Hulse, members of the NGT board of directors, the Macey family and the employees of the Athletic Shoe Factory.

The Macey family is full supporters of Norwalk Grassroots Tennis and has been for many years. Bill Macey serves on the advisory board of NGT, and Sharon Macey is a member of the board of directors. Their children Max, Morgan and Meredith, have all donated significant time over the years, teaching tennis to the kids on court, doing fundraisers and serving as academic tutors.
