The hall is at 60 County St. The drive will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The collected used clothing (adult and children’s coats, pants, sweaters, shirts, scarves, gloves, hats) will be donated to Norwalk-based Family & Children’s Agency. The nonperishable food will be donated to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.

“I am very excited about this event,” said Sean Ryan, president of Norwalk Cal Ripken. “As a non-for-profit organization, we survive year after year thanks to the sponsorship, support and donations from the community of Norwalk. It’s about time we started to give something back to the community that has already given so much to us.”

Norwalk Cal Ripken players and families that contribute to the drive will receive a five dollar discount off their spring 2015 season registration fee. Norwalk Cal Ripken Baseball will make a $5 donation to charity for all registrations collected during February.

“These kinds of events are critical to helping deserving organizations stay afloat and to providing support to those who are truly in need,” added Ryan. “We are part of a very privileged community, yet there are families in Norwalk and Fairfield County at large who are really struggling. The question isn’t why would we would sponsor this kind of event. The question is, ‘Why wouldn’t we?’ Ryan, a longtime Norwalk resident and director of media asset services for A+E Networks in Stamford, is a former collegiate rower and basketball player. A lifelong fitness enthusiast, he has been coaching in the Cal Ripken League for seven years and also coaches youth basketball, soccer and flag football.

“If you can create a positive impact on the community that you are part of and it will come back to you ten-fold.  Sure, we are a baseball league, but we are members of this community first and foremost,” said Ryan.

Cal Ripken Baseball is a community based program for players ages 4 to 12. Visit its website for more information.
