Norwalk Arts Commission Names Slattery As Mayor's Gallery Curator

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Arts Commission has tabbed Melissa Slattery as curator for its Mayor’s Gallery.

The Mayor’s Gallery, one of Norwalk Arts Commission’s many public art programs, has four shows planned for the 2015-16 season. The gallery will focus on award-winning student artists; recognize Norwalk’s creative economy; celebrate community diversity; and introduce the town’s many cultural organizations.

Slattery is a Norwalk, Conn., artist, teacher and graphic designer with an extensive marketing and advertising background. She is a lecturer in interdisciplinary studies at Norwalk Community College, serving on various committees, including the Committee for Diversity and Inclusion.

“The Mayor’s Gallery is the gateway to the mayor’s office and represents Norwalk’s diversity in every sense, said Norwalk Arts Commission Chairwoman Susan Wallerstein in a statement. “We decided it was time to hire a curator to dedicate and manage this very important public space.”

The Norwalk Arts Commission is increasing awareness and pride in Norwalk’s historic Works Progress Administration (WPA) mural collection, as well as more than 100 works of public art, through tours and various programs.
