NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk neighbors will see a familiar face on television during the Super Bowl on Feb. 5. Robert Sciglimpaglia appears on a television ad for Chevrolet in which a happy graduate believes he receives a car from his parents.
Sciglimpaglia plays the father in the 30-second spot, which debuted Sunday during the NFC Championship football game between the Giants and the 49ers. But Sciglimpaglias path toward his television appearance on Super Bowl Sunday was anything but ordinary.
The Norwalk lawyer has previously done voiceover work and commercials. In the summer, he also worked in an Off-Broadway show, the first play of his career. The actress with whom he was working was contacted a director about creating an advertisement for Chevy in a nationwide contest, and the director asked Sciglimpaglia to join the cast.
Its amazing, Sciglimpaglia said. It goes to show you never know. Its crazy how things work out sometimes.
The ad was submitted by Zach Borst, 26, of Long Island, N.Y. They filmed the commercial in Queens and submitted it into the Route 66 Super Bowl Ad Contest. Borsts ad won out of more than 200 submitted from around the world.
Ive done voice work and film and television, but nothing of this magnitude, on this big of a stage, Sciglimpaglia said. The ad was very well received. Its got a shot to be talked about after the Super Bowl.
Chevy liked the ad so much it released it Sunday. I learned about that five minutes before it aired, Sciglimpaglia said. I thought it came off phenomenally. It looked great in HD.
Sciglimpaglia is a graduate of Stamford Catholic High and lives in Norwalk with his wife, Jenny, and daughters Patti, Katie and Mary. He still has trouble comprehending that hell be on a nationwide television commercial during the Super Bowl. I was shocked, I was excited, he said. I was telling my wife, my kids, everybody. I got the word out quickly.
