Nielsens Helps Rebuild Pinkney Memorial Garden In Darien

DARIEN, Conn. – The Pinkney Memorial Garden, started in the late 1990s, has been maintained by the Rowayton Historical Society, using the types of plants that were often grown during the 19th century in coastal Connecticut gardens.

During Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, two years in a row, the garden was underwater. Since then, many volunteers have put a great deal of work into the gardens, as well as dividing and bringing in plants from their own gardens and buying new plants to restore the area.

Nielsen’s Florist of Darien also made a donation to the garden – a $1,000 gift certificate. Volunteers have used the certificate, along with many other donations from local residents, to further build up the gardens.

Now that the garden is back, volunteers are still needed to help keep it up. To volunteer or make a donation, contact the Rowayton Historical Society or email Susan Baker at susanhuntleybaker@gmail.com.
