Mary Schmitzer, 94, Formerly of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – Mary Vishnosky Schmitzer, a former Norwalk resident, died May 22 at Danbury Hospital. She was 94.

Born in New Canaan in 1917, she was a daughter of Stanislaus and Magdeline Nawaednosky Vishnosky. Schmitzer was a longtime Norwalk resident and retired from Harlic Bag and Leather Co. in 1982. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Norwalk.

Schmitzer moved to River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury in 2008. She enjoyed reading, going to casinos and visiting her children and grandchildren. More recently, Schmitzer liked to play bingo and win prizes for her great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Schmitzer.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane (W. Wayne) Lathrop, of Southbury, and Linda Crist, of Virginia; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and an "adopted grandson," Brian Fortier. Schmitzer was predeceased by three brothers, a sister and a son-in-law.

Services were held Tuesday at St. Mary Church in Norwalk, with burial at St. John Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home.
