Make a Donation, Cut Your Library Fine

Norwalk Public Library cardholders can wriggle out of some of their debt this month by bringing in donations for needy families. The library will cut fines or fees in half for patrons who bring in a nonperishable food item or an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.

"What a great way to help the Food Bank and Toys for Tots and the library," Irene Cusick said in a statement. Library patrons can return their overdue books for half price to the Norwalk Public Library on Belden Avenue or the South Norwalk Branch on Washington Street, along with their toy or food donation.

Also, the Norwalk Public Library Children's Library is continuing its every-other-month writing contest with the December theme of "Joke." To enter, children must be in kindergarten through sixth grade. Entry forms and instructions with each month's theme are available in the Children's Department. Each submission must be less than one page and may be illustrated.

The contest opens today, and the deadline to turn in a submission is Dec. 31. There will be one winner per contest, but every child's piece of writing will be displayed. The runners-up each month will get a free family pass to the library's "PJ's, Pizza and a Movie Night!" For more information, visit the website or Norwalk Public Library Children's Library at 1 Belden Avenue or call 203-899-2780, Ext 131.

The library is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; noon to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays; and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
