Local Police to Serve Dinner at the Goose in Darien

A Darien police officer might be taking your dinner order next week at The Goose American Bistro and Bar, so you better leave a good tip.

The Darien Police Department will host its second annual Tip-a-Cop fundraiser June 27, said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron. All tips the officers earn from waiting tables will benefit the Special Olympics of Connecticut.

“We start taking drink orders and carrying trays during the day,” Marron said. “Patrons can come in and request certain officers, so it’s a really good event for us because we can engage with people and make some positive contact.”

Last year, he said around 15 officers participated in the event, raising more than $5,000 for the Special Olympics of Connecticut. Plus, it allowed residents to see police officers outside of their squad cars.

“People get to interact with us in a more relaxed environment and see that we’re regular people,” Marron said. “And, on top of that, it’s a great cause.”

The Darien Police Department is a longtime supporter of the Special Olympics. On June 8, officers and athletes participated in its annual Law Enforcement Torch Run® by carrying the Flame of Hope across Darien. They met officers from Norwalk at the town line before carrying it to Stamford.

“It’s symbolic to show how law enforcement works closely with the Special Olympics,” Marron said.

The Darien Police Department's "Tip-a-Cop" event will be held from 4-10 p.m. on June 27 at the Goose American Bistro and Bar in Darien. For reservations, call (203)-656-2600.
