To the Editor,
No, it is not a bad idea.
I have being reading all the discussions why and why-not to have a safe beach road. The main road to get to the beach road is Gregory Boulevard. From the Wells Fargo bank to Ludlow Manor Park it is one lane. Once you get to Beach Road, it becomes two lanes. As a RESIDENT and a taxpayer of EAST NORWALK I don't see a fallback on keeping this one lane to the beach and back. After all, at the gate there usually is only one person checking for beach stickers.
I have observed during the day and at night that as soon as motorists turn right onto beach road I hear the accelerations of cars and definitely of most motorcycles. You've got to see what I see: People trying to get across from Ludlow Manor Park to any of the surrounding streets, it is impossible. Cars don't stop. ... They can see a pregnant lady in the rain, and yet they don't stop. ... If one did, the car behind goes around and honks. ... It is that bad.
They see kids trying to cross the road, and yet they don't stop. My favorite is I see families riding their bikes to the beach on the right side and yet cars come so close to them purposely trying to squeeze them out of the street while the left lane is clear and has no traffic.
