NORWALK, Conn. This is letter to the editor is from Duff Stokes:
The qualities we look for in a Board of Education candidate are fairly clear. We need someone who is focused, intelligent, non-partisan, willing to work and not looking for personal gain. Those qualities are embodied 100 percent by Geoff Kieburtz. Geoff decided to run for the BOE after he had completed 22 years of being the parent of a student in Norwalk Schools. Twenty-two years of budget meetings, long discussions and a leadership role among the parents of his children's peers.
Nothing has stopped him since. His singular focus has been on engaging with parents, principals and city officials to take his passion for the Norwalk School System to the next level. If you haven't spoken with Geoff over the last few months (and that can only be because you weren't home when he came calling) you know that he has consumed a vast amount of information on our school system and the national educational debate. He brings an analytical mind and a keen intellect to bear on the situation.
This is the one and only office Geoff will ever run for. He is singularly committed to doing this one thing and doing it well. One Man, One Office, and One Reason ... the betterment of the Norwalk School System.
Geoff has engaged with not only the principals and superintendent, but he has also formed a team with the other candidates for BOE this year and some of the incumbents. Their motto rings true to me. Engage, Empower, Educate. They want to ensure that parents are engaged always in the process and respected, that teachers are empowered to make bold choices for excellence and that all are educated in a first-class system.
Geoff has written about his positive ideas for how to make the school system better and will continue to do so. He will not retreat from controversy, but he will listen to all sides. His commitment is staggering. You have a choice when you enter the voting booth and that choice is clear. Say no to political games and yes to a parent filled with the same passion and commitment as you, vote for Geoff Kieburtz.
