NORWALK, Conn. -- Happy Birthday To Norwalk’s Steven Kellogg.

Kellogg, who has owned a home in Norwalk, turns 72 on Saturday. The writer and illustrator was born Oct. 26, 1941, in Norwalk.

Kellogg’s first book was published in 1967. He is best known for writing books about animals. He has created more than 110 children's books.

His popular works include “Island of the Skog,” “Johnny Appleseed,” “A Rose for Pinkerton,” “How Much is a Million” and “The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate the Wash.”

He was given an honorary doctor of humane letters from The University of Findlay in 2011.

He is a vice-president of the National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance, a national not-for-profit organization that advocates for literacy and currently creates his whimsical illustrations and tall tales in an old farmhouse in Connecticut.
