NORWALK, Conn. -- Happy Birthday To Norwalk’s Steven Kellogg.

Steven Kellogg turns 73 on Sunday.

Steven Kellogg turns 73 on Sunday.

Kellogg, who has owned a home in Norwalk, turns 73 on Sunday. The writer and illustrator was born Oct. 26, 1941 in Norwalk.

Kellogg’s first book was published in 1967. He is best known for writing books about animals. He has created more than 110 children's books.

His popular works include “Island of the Skog,” “Johnny Appleseed,” “A Rose for Pinkerton,” “How Much is a Million” and “The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate the Wash.”

On Nov. 12, 2011, Kellogg was given an honorary doctor of humane letters from the University of Findlay. All of his original illustrations were donated to the Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books, which is located at the University of Findlay.

He is a vice president of the National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance, a national non-profit organization that advocates for literacy. He currently creates his whimsical illustrations and tall tales in an old farmhouse in Connecticut.
