Artwork Muller created as a volunteer has enhanced all of the signs and publications produced during the last three years for the alliance and the free festival for families in the park.
A plaque is to be presented to Muller at the festival, recognizing his volunteerism.
Dan Landau, president of the Norwalk Tree Alliance, said Muller’s graphics have added a compelling visual edge to the message underscoring the function of trees as an asset to the community.
“Ron also brings enthusiasm and an infectious sense of humor to all of our activities,” Landau said.
Muller retired after 25 years as a designer with Phillip’s Electronics. As a young man, he also served two years with the U.S. Peace Corps in Thailand. To explain his interest in the environment and motivation for volunteering, he cites an old Native American proverb that calls for the protection of our forests “for our children, grandchildren, those yet to be born and those who can’t speak for themselves, the birds, animals and fish.”
The festival showcases a diverse lineup of ecologically-oriented exhibitors and demonstrations in tree care. For children, there are rides to the treetops in cherry-pickers and a tree-rope climb, plus activities like face painting and games.
Admission and parking is free. Nothing is sold on the site and a free picnic-style lunch is provided. The festival’s mission is to enhance public awareness about the vital contributions trees make to the quality of life.
