The evening’s comedic emcee is Joy Behar and headline performer is actor and comedian, Mario Cantone, best known for his role as Anthony Marantino on HBO’s Sex and the City.
Rubino, 28, has been an avid supporter of the foundation and its work since her mom, Trish, also a Danbury resident, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, in September 2007. Since then, she has raised more than $200,000 for the foundation and has participated in many fundraising events, including races and chairing its Young Professionals Group in New York City.
Rubino and her mom live together in Danbury. After her mom was diagnosed, Rubino learned of the work being done by the foundation to extend the lives of patients. Since 2008, she and her sister Stephanie, her brother Joseph and many family members and friends have run races to help raise money.
In September 2013, Jessica and Stephanie ran the Berlin Marathon and exceeded their fundraising goal of $20,00 by raising close to $30,000. At the time, Rubino said: “My hope is that when my mom sees us training for this marathon, something we never could have imagined ourselves doing, she finds hope to beat multiple myeloma. Every time I run and I feel pain, I think of her fighting this cancer and it pushes me to finish. So while it is my goal to provide hope for my mom, she inspires me and provides me with hope every single day.”
Since she first got involved in 2007, Rubino and her family and friends have raised more than $200,000 for the foundation.
“My family and I truly believe newer and better drugs are coming to patients and I will do everything I can to help fund the research and keep my family full of hope,” she said.
