According to a statement from MP Construction, the money was raised during the Standing Up Against Cancer dinner comedy show held recently at the Riverview Bistro Restaurant in Stratford.

“It was a fun night of laughter, which is a great way to temporarily forget about the pains and heartache associated with cancer,” said Maurizio Paniccia, owner of MP Construction. “At the same time, we raised money to help bring an end to cancer.”

While Paniccia and a committee of volunteers have been organizing an annual Cancer Society fundraiser for the past decade, this year's event was the first centered on comedy, according to the statement.

Held in conjunction with the Treehouse Comedy Production's Funny 4 Funds program, the Riverview Bistro dinner show featured several Treehouse comedians, including Billy Winn, Max Colcelli and Rob Falcone.

Major event sponsors include:

  • Westfield Shoppingtown in Trumbull
  • Lucca Plumbing of Monroe
  • Cambridge Electric of Prospect
  • Lisa Maria LLC of Monroe
  • Crave Restaurant of Fairfield
  • Ballroom Dancesport of Milford
  • Strathmoor Electric
  • AN Giacco, LLC of Milford
  • Trumbull Fred Astaire

According to MP Construction, Paniccia co-chairs the fundraiser's planning committee with Nichole Paniccia. Other committee members include Mike Detuzzi of Stratford, Mike and Alice McCloghry and Melissa Deamico of Trumbull, Lisa Paniccia of Monroe and Maritza Rivera of Shelton.
