Councilman Romano Endorsed by Fire, Police Unions

NORWALK, Conn. – Republican Common Councilwomen at-large Joanne Romano has received the endorsement of the International Association of Firefighters Union, Local 830, and the Norwalk Police Union in her bid for re-election.

"Joanne has always been very supportive of the Norwalk Fire Department and has supported our efforts to keep Norwalk safe whether on or off the Common Council," said Lefty Petrides, president of Local 830. "We look forward to working with Joanne once more as we feel she is a true advocate for the safety of all Norwalk residents and we as firefighters."

"Joanne comes from a law enforcement family," said Sgt. Thomas Roncinske Jr., president of Local 1727. "Joanne understands what police officers deal with everyday. Joanne has been a strong ally of the Police Union for many years. We believe that Joanne's experience with the Common Council and as chairwoman of the personnel committee make her an excellent candidate."

Petrides added that Romano has worked closely with the fire department and has promoted public safety. He cited her involvement in the Health, Welfare and Public Safety Committee, the Norwalk Disaster Reserve Volunteer Program and the ordinance committee of the Common Council.

Romano said she is proud to receive the endorsement as she believes that the fire and police departments are the most important departments in any city. "We as elected officials must stand behind them 100 percent and assure they have every possible means to protect the citizens of Norwalk."
