NORWALK, Conn. -- Warm coats were provided to the country's bravest and Norwalk's youngest through initiatives by local Knights of Columbus organizations.
St. Matthew Council 14360 and students at Fox Run, Wolfpit and All Saints Catholic Schools held separate coat drives, enabling volunteers to make four deliveries to Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport.
Calling the veterans a "top-notch organization," Joe Giandurco Council 14360 member, who served in Vietnam, said, "It is my pleasure and honor to help my fellow veterans any way I can."
In addition, the council and Catholic Daughters of America Daughters of the Americas St. Matthew Court 2640 provided Thanksgiving meals for the veterans, an annual tradition.
"They gave up the time and financial resources that are so precious this time of year to coordinate three supply drives and deliver a traditional turkey dinner to our men and women on Thanksgiving," said Communications and Outreach Specialist Kaitlin Marinelli.
In addition, Council 14360 held the Third Annual Christmas Tree and Creche lighting at St. Matthew church, a festive event with singing by adult and youth choirs.
And the New Canaan Knights of Columbus Council 2287 ran a coat drive to supply kids in need at St. Joseph Church.
The coats were purchased with funds raised by three separate Knights of Columbus councils.
