NORWALK, Conn. Democratic candidate for mayor Andy Garfunkel spent Tuesday collecting endorsements from local building and construction trade unions, according to a statement from his campaign released Thursday.
Garfunkel has accepted the endorsements of the Asbestos Workers, Boilermakers, Bricklayers Chapter 1, Carpenters, Elevators Constructors, IBEW Local 3, IBEW Local 448, IBPAT Council 11 Glaziers, Iron Workers, Laborers' Local 146, Laborers' Local 665, Northeast Regional Council of Millwrights, Operating Engineers, Operative Plasterers & Cement Masons, Plumbers, Roofers and Water Proofers, Sheet Metal Workers, Sprinkler Fitters and Teamsters unions, according to the statement.
"Here in Norwalk, it is extremely important to work with our local Unions to bring jobs into our community," Garfunkel said in the statement. "Together we can work to accept and implement more Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) to bring more jobs back to our skilled workers."
Garfunkel emphasized the importance of employing members of the Norwalk community. He said the city cannot afford to continue to outsource work to people in other parts of the country. He said, "Our No. 1 priority should be to employ people from our local organizations, and other municipalities in the area."
