Like a sports team approaching the playoff season, bands from Fairfield County and nearby were in championship form at Saturday night's Cavalcade of Bands at Norwalk High School. In spite of chilly temperatures and a stiff breeze, the stands were packed with several thousand music lovers and relatives of the high school musicians. It was the last competition of the regular season before next Saturday's Musical Arts Conference championship in Bridgeport.
The bands, which are divided into scoring categories based on size, are scored each week, and the increased polish and precision from the opener in early September were notable. Like champion athletes, the musicians push themselves and their counterparts at other schools to even higher performances, making next week's finale something special.
